(Great Blue Heron - photo by Neil Barker - June 29, 2024)
Falling rain indifferent to those under the clouds of home.
Sound muffled and muted, sight dulled and opague without sunlight.
A sleeping phantomn of blue and gray, undisturbed by the world.
I took these photos on Saturday June 29, 2024. I went for a hike in the rain at my favourite local conservation area here in Ottawa Canada.
I was fortunate to see this Great Blue Heron perched on this old tree branch. The Great Blue Heron was sleeping. I felt a little guilty waking them from their sleep.
I took a few photos and quietly left and continued my hike in the rain. I smiled and silently wished them happy dreams and a good weekend.
Great shots Neil. I’m spoiled in that I see these herons often—but it’s impossible not to take photos of them. I got in the snobby habit of not looking at them as much when uploading and editing, but have been spending more time reminding myself that they are beautiful and poring over shots, smiling—particularly of an unbothered heron that let me astoundingly close at a fish hatchery. Thank you for buttressing my realization that I shouldn’t take them for granted.
two in one, lovely poem and birds
