(Harvest Moon - photo by Neil Barker - September 17, 2024)
In the sky, marking the changing seasons and passage of time.
Elements mixing in an eternal recipe of life.
What is my role in this Grand Play with Nature as Director?
I took these photos on September 17, 2024. I took these images of the Moon from my balcony here in Ottawa Ontario Canada. In Korea, my in-laws, friends, and former colleagues were celebrating Chuseok (추석.)
My memories of Chuseok in Korea are of visiting my in-laws in Seoul and trips abroad with my wife to Japan and Singapore. I am always thankful for the experiences.
Chuseok follows the Lunar calendar. Chuseok is the 15th day of the 8th Lunar month which was September 17th 2024 in the Solar calendar. This year, the Chuseok holiday included September 16, 17, 18, 2024.
One aspect of the Moon and Chuseok I appreciate is the connection to Nature. There is the change from Summer to Autumn. Also, harvesting food to prepare for Winter.
For me, the Moon holds a deep meaning. The Moon is ever-changing in appearance. Perhaps that appearance reveals the depth of its meaning in Nature.
The Sun shines light and reveals the surface. The Solar calendar tries to calculate precision over Nature. The Lunar calendar works with Nature and ebbs and flows.
