(Cooper’s Hawk - photo by Neil Barker - March 10, 2024)
An overcast morning, silhouettes abound conceal colours.
Hidden treasures and dangers at the edges of our senses.
Watch and listen without judgement to know what is Natural.
I took these photos on March 10, 2024. The weather was overcast and raining for most of my hike. About 45 minutes into my hike, I heard Black-capped Chickadees and White-breasted Nuthatches making alarms calls and I looked up around to see what they were concerned about.
While looking up, I saw a Cooper’s Hawk fly from a tall Pine Tree and glide over to this tree branch. I walked closer for a better look. The hawk was scanning the area below for opportunites.
Several American Crows flew overhead but seemed to not notice or not bother this Cooper’s Hawk. I watched the hawk for 10 minutes before moving on and silently wishing them well.
I find myself doing this often the past few years. Before leaving an encounter with Nature, I silently thank them for their time and wish them well in being what they are in the present moment.
Always a pleasure to read about how you observe the interplay between species and even use it as a foundation for encounters!
Yes, I am also thankful for the hawks, the crows, the birds, the squirrels, the insects, and all the living things that we are fortunate to see in our encounters with the world. How horrible it would be if they were not present.
