(Ice - photo by Neil Barker - February 4, 2024)
Two worlds meeting at the shore, both cold, one flowing and one firm.
Each is dependent on the other, but looking more closely.
Reveals the unseen Truth that there are not two worlds, simply One.
I took these photos on February 4, 2024. I had stopped along the Ottawa river to observe Common Goldeneyes and noticed the shapes and colours of the ice. I remembered posts by
from and the awesome photos and how Karen capturea different shapes in ice.I had never stopped and paid attention to the ice formations along the shoreline. On the ice in the photo above, I see several frozen waves.
As I stood and watched, I saw the water and waves washing up onto the ice.
I am not sure where that blue colour is reflecting from in this photo. The sky was overcast that day and I was wearing blacks and grays. I stopped and looked up and around trying to figure this one out. Perhaps simply the confluence of light and water.
These remind me of flowers.
This pair of Mallards also decided to check out the ice formations. I am going to spend some time in the coming weeks admiring these ice formations along the shore of the Ottawa River. Thanks for the inspiration Karen!
Wish I were at the Nemaha and at the Lake too. The poetry is as lovely as the photos. What a world!
Beautiful shots, Neil. Love the first and the one right before the Mallards. There is beauty all around us in this world.
