Raccoon: "Tree of Three "
Those seeking peace and quiet, what Truth is revealed in their sleep?
(Raccoon - photo by Neil Barker - September 8, 2024)
Nocturnal wanderings in search of adventure before dawn.
At Sunrise, light is shone and the world revealed and awakened.
For those seeking solitude, what Truth is revealed in their sleep?
I took these photos and the video on September 8, 2024. I was hiking at Mud Lake in Ottawa and walked to a lookout platform. I heard scratching in a pine tree above me and looked up.
I saw these three raccoon siblings in the tree. One of the raccoons was already inside this hole in the pine tree. The other two were in the tree watching me.
One of the raccoons had peeked outside a few times from the hole and then turned in for some rest. I watched the remaining two siblings climb around the outside of the tree. I stayed for a few minutes and then bid them a good day’s / night’s sleep.
English - Korean:
Raccoon (Procyon lotor) = 라쿤 / Raccoon (refers to the raccoon in North America)
American Raccoon (Procyon lotor) = 아메리카너구리 / America neoguri
Common Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) = 너구리 / Neoguri
**If you visit an Asian or Korean grocery store, you might see instant noodles called ‘Neoguri.’ This is the Korean word for ‘raccoon’ and refers to the ‘raccoon dog’ (Nyctereutes procyonoides) found in East Asia.**
I personally know several of these precious critters. All are gentlemen and ladies doing their best with their little ones on their daily scrimmage for food. They stand facing me, their arms and fingers outstretched tightly to signal all I need to know and will forever be Imprinted on my soul.
Wonderful photos. Really. Those little faces! But everyone- where there are young ones there will usually be nearby their mother. And like all mothers, they are fiercely protective. Raccoons, for all their charm, are formidable animals- treat with respect, love and caution please.
