I took these photos April 20, 2025. This Red Squirrel is one of a few that I have come to know over the years. This squirrel regularly meets me on this side trail near the shore of the Ottawa River. I have nicknamed this squirrel Riverside Red.

I like how quickly Riverside Red removes the shell on this peanut. I left a few more peanuts for Riverside Red and continued my hike.

• America = 아메리카 / america

• Red = 붉은 / bulgeun (sort of like “bool-geun”)

• Squirrel = 다람쥐 / daramjwi

(The 다람 / daram in 다람쥐 / squirrel roughly translates as ‘running’ or ‘dashing.’ So a 다람쥐 / daramjwi translates as a ‘running/dashing rodent.’ Such a fitting name!)
