(Smooth Sumac - photo by Neil Barker - January 21, 2024)
A bright and cold Winter morning reveals Nature’s handiwork.

I wish to know: who is the artist beneath this perfection?
I took these photos on January 24, 2024. At my local conservation area, there is a small ridge about 20-30 feet high and maybe 100 yards long. Often, I start my hikes on this ridge because it is the highest point in the park and I can get a good view of the morning sun. Also, there is a lot of sumac growing alongside the trail.
That morning, the weather was beautiful with those high blue skies, no clouds, and bright sunshine. The temperature was quite cold (-18°C / -0.4°F.) I liked how the frost had formed on the sumac. It made me think Nature had dusted the sumac with sugar like a sweet dessert. Nature truly is an artist.
Great shot!
Nature is indeed an artist! Also really enjoyed the line: “Frosty crystals covering bold red sumac without intent”
