(White-throated Sparrow - photo by Neil Barker - May 4, 2024)
Flashes of movement on the forest floor, left, right and centre.
Pausing to look closer, a dozen creatures scurry about.
Birds of a feather, in search of food, to fuel the flight North.
I took these photos on May 4, 2024. I began my hike at Britannia Conservation Area shortly after sunrise about 6am. Here in Ottawa Canada, we are well into the Spring migration period and plenty of species are moving through the area.
I was fortunate to have this White-throated Sparrow pose for a few seconds. This fellow was in a group of about two dozen flying and hopping near the ground looking for breakfast on and under the leaves on the ground.
Most of the White-throated Sparrows stopping by the conservation area will continue North. They will likely settle down for the next few months in Northern Ontario and Northern Quebec. I wish them a safe journey and hope to see them on their return journey in the Autumn.

"Flashes of movement"... We saw those same flashes here many weeks before as they passed through the San Pedro River corridor. It's fascinating to watch the migration north through the eyes of another poet!
Thank you love this
