Black-crowned Night Heron: "Photo Bombed by a Green Heron"
What is it we now seek together: our mutual knowing?
Searching the shoreline in solitude for that which sustains you.
Now joined by another, you’re no longer alone on your quest.
What is it we now seek together: our mutual knowing?
I took these photos June 8, 2025. I was near the end of my hike and decided to check this drainage pond. I have seen herons, a Great Grey Owl, and River Otters here. In the distance, I spotted a Black-crowned Night Heron along the shore.
I watched this Black-crowned Night Heron hunting. I took a few photos, and suddenly a Green Heron dropped in to be included as well. Photo bomb very much appreciated.
I am going spend more time observing herons. Now, if I can get the heron trifecta of a Great Blue Heron, a Black-crowned Night Heron, and a Green Heron in one photo…
English - Korean:
Black-crowned Night Heron = 해오라기 / haeoragi (*Roughly translates as Sun Heron. In this case, 해/hae can mean Sun or the colour white.)
Green Heron = 녹색왜가리 / Noksaek-waegari (*Translates as Green colour Heron.)
What a gift, Neil! Eagerly awaiting the Heron Trifecta and other spontaneous photobombs.
The last line of this poem ... that's a trifecta, in and of itself.
