Thank you, Agnes and very much appreciated. Coyotes always make me stop and stare and appreciate them. I was fortunate that morning to have this one stop and stare back.
Beautiful in its simplicity, in writing, seeing and hearing alike. I love the pairing of "fading paths of the past" and vintage-style photos and video, and the sound of howling wind and snow ready adds to the ambience.
This is almost reminiscent of some early Scandinavian Black Metal album covers that were traditionally nature-oriented.
Coyotes are shy of humans. A couple of years ago, I was fortunate to see a coyote at a local cemetery on our street in urban Toronto. He was no more than 10 metres away. We stared at each other for a few seconds, and then he loped away in the other direction.
Neil, What a gift that you were able to track and see the beautiful coyote, the song dog. Your Sijo was as lovely as your experience. Thank you so much for taking me, all of us, along.
This is a beautiful post, Neil. The sijo and photography blend so well, I almost feel like I'm on the snowy trail with this gift of an encounter. It's like the coyote waited for you to catch up.
Beautiful. What an amazing moment, looking at each other in the snow.
I saw a coyote come running through the rain across a parking lot in the middle of the night, less than a dozen feet from my parked car. But he didn't see me. Just a ghost slipping through the raindrops.
That sounds like an amazing encounter, Melanie. It’s a special experience to have Nature connect like that and leave a memorable lasting impression. I like how you describe that as “a ghost slipping through the raindrops.”
Nice sighting! The living haunt the ghosts of the past and in their dreams the ghosts are troubled.
Thank you, Michael and very much appreciated. What you wrote reads as a koan - captured thoughts perfectly.
Good catch in the winter morning and lovely atmosphere of your short story about coyote. I have never seen it so close.

Coyote follows messages scent
Nose in the air
Bite of cold rubs fur
Wrong way waning full mouth
On March trail for prey
Soon to be answered.
Beautifully written, Richard. This piece captures the experience well!
U found the trail.
Encouraged to see
What was happening.
Thanks for photo opportunity.
Well said and the luck and timing and weather helped make this experience possible.
Beautiful experience and your words capture it perfectly.
Thanks, Nathaniel and very much appreciated. It was nice to finally see a Coyote here after years of only finding tracks and sign.

Thank you, Ramona and very much appreciated. I was fortunate that morning on an otherwise still day - quite the memorable experience.

That sounds like an amazing experience, Perry. It is interesting to have that connection through simply observing one another. Thank you for sharing.
I really like this week’s poem, Neil. The question at the end is one that really makes me think. Thank you!
Thank you, Aria and very much appreciated!
Wonderful video! I haven't seen coyotes in the wild, I forgot how big they can get. I wonder if this was a coydog hybrid?
Thanks, Thomas! This one could be - I have seen a few Coyotes around the city over the years that had the markings and manners of hybrid coydogs.

Thanks, Pamela and very much appreciated.
Such a tender moment, Neil. Just beautiful. Holy.
Thanks, Ann and very much appreciated.

Thanks Heidi and very much appreciated. This encounter did feel like the Coyote was waiting for and allowed me a glimpse of their presence.
