(Eastern Cottontail - photo by Neil Barker - July 1, 2024)
Crouched and still among vibrant greenery, watching and waiting.
Eyes roaming for movement, ears tuned to the comings and goings.
Sit still, be still, new appreciation comes naturally.
I took these photos on July 1, 2024. I was coming up a trail to a clearing when I saw this Eastern Cottontail Rabbit sitting quietly. I stopped and crouched down.
I watched and waited to see if this rabbit would scamper off. Fortunately, the rabbit did not scamper off and instead sat still.
This was a memorable experience simply watching this rabbit watch me. Both of us watching one another simply sitting and experiencing the morning.
Experiences like this remind me of how important it is to live in the present moment.
Stunning photography and photo, Neil. It’s a contemplative moment to share with your writing. Thank you! I also want to comment that the green in the photos is soothing to look at. I’ve heard that certain bands of green light act as pain relievers.
Lovely poem and time spent with the Eastern Cottontail. They are wonderful creatures to spend time with. 😀
