An Autumn morning over a field of of muted colour.
A pair of deer with tails of white, stand curious yet guarded.
To approach or to flee: what is it that the senses seek?
I took these photos and videos on October 20, 2024. I was hiking this trail and saw movement ahead. I froze.
I saw two White-tailed Deer at the end of the trail. Both deer paused and looked in my direction. I stood still in the middle of the trail.
I think these are the same deer I have seen in the park over the past year. On one of the deer, you can see a small white marking just off centre between her eyes. She looks like the same deer I posted in “Deer Muses” (link below.)
As my earlier encounters with deer, I decided not to follow them and let them be. Both deer walked off to my right and I turned to my left and took a different trail.
I smiled, silently thanked them for the encounter, and wished them a peaceful day.

That gorgeous close-up! Those ears... those eyes... that nose. She is beautiful. I am in love. Thank you :-)
Lovely photos and calming videos, Neil. Few nature encounters feel as special as looking at a deer as the animal returns your gaze. You capture it wonderfully.
